Silver Memo Tray

Silver Memo Tray

While digging through the pile of metal trays and such, I kept coming back to this tray.  I've been wanting a decorative memo holder, something to put shopping lists or reminders on.

Once I decided what I wanted to do, I got to the fun part.  I'm really pleased with this new paper collection from Close to My Heart.  It's called Yuletide Carol.  I love that while it is a Christmas themed collection, it can be used for so many other occasions.

I used a drill to put 2 small holes in the tray for attaching the memo clip.  I used 2 old brads to hold the clip in place.  I purchased the Tim Holtz memo clip at JoAnn's.

After measuring and cutting the focal paper, I distressed the edges with the Edge Distresser.  I laid it on the tray and decided it needed a little something, so I pulled out some crepe paper from my stash and made a ruffle to go around the circle of paper.  I put pieces of adhesive strips, around the backside of the paper, and pinched pleated the ruffle and secured into place. Once that was done, I secured the paper circle to the tray with more adhesive strips.

Next I stamped the phrase "I adore you" from the Hello Wonderful stamp set, on a piece of  Colonial White cardstock, and cut it into a flag shape and distressed the edges with Desert Sand ink, with a sponge dauber.  I glued that piece onto a scrap from the Yuletide Carol (from the piece I had cut to mat the photo in project 1) and cut it to create a border for the flag.  I used the new Mini Stapler, to add a couple staples to the end of the flag and then attached it to the tray with more adhesive strip.

Next came the cookie cutter.  I went through my vintage photos and chose this sweet wedding photo to be placed inside.  I used Liquid Glass to adhere the glitter I made from old Christmas ornaments (look for the tutorial on Friday).

I edged the photo, as well as the inside and outside edge of the cookie cutter.  Once it all dried, I taped the photo inside the cookie cutter with more adhesive strip.  I then glued 2 magnets to the back of the heart with more liquid glass.  When that was dry, I stuck it to the tray, and voila!

Even though it isn't shown in the pictures, I have used ribbon attached to the backside of the brads to hang the tray.  You'll see it in this weeks final post.
Here's one final look:
